In the Centre region, farm labourers were hired at markets when animals were bought and sold. The farmer used to give this knife as a gift to the labourer he took on. It was considered to be a guarantee and a pledge of good harmony between the worker and his boss in the future. This knife served many purposes thanks to its numerous parts. It is probably the forerunner of the multi-tool knives!
